Teacher and Paraprofessional Qualifications

All students have the right to be taught by the most qualified teachers and paraprofessionals.  All teachers and paraprofessionals within the Gayville-Volin School District are 100% Highly Qualified.  Should your son/daughter have a teacher who does not meet these qualifications, you will be notified with a letter indicating such and what steps are being taken to remedy the situation.  You have the right to know the qualifications of those who instruct your child.

Sports Information Night

The Boys & Girls Club of Yankton is excited to offer a new Career Launch program at Gayville-Volin High School through a grant received from the South Dakota Community Foundation.

The Smarter Balanced (SBAC) and state Science Assessments will begin for students in grades 3-8 and 11 on April 3rd. We do our best to work around the busy Spring schedule when planning the assessments, so please try to have your child at school during the scheduled testing times. The schedule is as follows:

GV Girls and FA Boys Take TVC Honors

IRENE – The Gayville-Volin girls and Freeman Academy boys claimed top honors in the Tri-Valley Conference/Irene-Wakonda Invitational cross country meet, held on Wednesday at Glenridge Golf Course near Irene.

In the boys’ division, Freeman Academy put three runners in the first four and four in the first seven to beat out Canistota 8-23 for the overall title and 6-26 over Baltic for the conference crown. Freeman Academy’s Thaniel Schroeder won in 18:59, followed by Canistota’s Mason Decker (19:18) and Freeman Academy’s Brennan Haggerty (19:30) in the 5,000-meter event.

Gayville-Volin’s Laura Nelson (20:53) won by over two minutes over Menno’s Morgan Edelman (22:59), helping the Raiders to a 10-30 victory over Freeman for the overall title and a 7-22 victory over Viborg-Hurley for conference honors. Gayville-Volin’s Genny Clark was third in 23:17.

 

Nelson Wins Oriole Invite

Gayville-Volin’s Laura Nelson won the 5,000-meter event in 19:13.08, 10 seconds faster than Lennox’s Maisey Bainbridget (19:23.87). Elk Point-Jefferson’s Josie Heeren (19:26.96), Dakota Valley’s Marisa Schulz (19:29.80) and Beresford’s Cait Savey (19:33.54) rounded out the top five.

Gayville-Volin to Induct Erickson and 1995 W-G-V Panthers

The Gayville-Volin School District is set to induct the 1995 W-G-V Panther Championship Football Team and also Parker Erickson a multi-sport 2010 athlete.  Stream the 1995 Championship Game Here

Buckman and Clark Reign As King and Queen

Coronation was held Monday night in the Gayville-Volin School District and that means a year to reign for a new King and Queen.  Adisson Bertrand and Brandon VanOsdel revealed the Matt Buckman and Genevieve Clark will serve over the festivities this week.  Other members of the court are: Zach Anderson, Viola Ishmael, DaNeila Jensen and James Hoffman.

GV School Celebrates Red Ribbon Week 2016 RRW 2016

Gayville-Volin School will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 25-28. Red Ribbon Week promotes healthy lifestyles, positive choices, and awareness about the dangers of drug use. This year, the theme for Red Ribbon Week is “YOLO (You only live once)! Be Drug-Free!”

Gayville-Volin to Embark on Educational Transformation

The Gayville-Volin School District has been embarking on a journey to transform education and our goal is to fully implement this transformation for all students at all levels within the next three years.  Why do we all love iTunes, Amazon and Google?  If one was to be honest, they’d probably say it is because these are organizations that allows the user to interface with information that is organized, appealing to our tastes and available when we want it and in a form that is convenient.

GVHS Dual Credit and AP Information Night

GVHS will be holding Dual Credit and Advanced Placement Information Night on Thursday, April 7, at 6:00 PM. This meeting is required for all high school students and parents of students who plan to take dual credit college courses or Advanced Placement courses during the 2016-2017 school year.

Dakota Smiles Free Dental Care Program

United Way & Volunteer Services is once again partnering with Delta Dental to bring FREE dental care to the youth of the Yankton area. The Delta Dental Dakota Smiles Dental Mobile will be at Beadle Elementary in Yankton from Monday, March 28th through Friday, April 1st. 

If you’re not familiar with the Dental Mobile, it is a service run throughout the state by Delta Dental of SD which provides no cost dental care to children ages 0-21.  They have the capability to do everything from routine preventative cleaning to caps and crowns.

Volleyball Remains Unbeaten

SCOTLAND – Gayville-Volin won a pair of matches at Tuesday’s volleyball triangular in Scotland, remaining unbeaten on the season.

In the first set, Gayville-Volin was able to out-last Centerville 25-15, 22-25, 25-17, 25-11.

Genevieve Clark led GV with 25 kills and 10 digs, while Traia Hubbard added nine kills. Grace Dangel provided 38 set assits and 12 more digs.

Rebecca Hyberton recorded three kills, 10 digs, and four ace serves. Emily Snyder added four kills and seven set assists.

SCOTLAND – Gayville-Volin continued its undefeated start to their season as they swept past Scotland 25-23, 25-18, 25-11 on Tuesday night.

Genevieve Clark recorded 16 kills, 10 digs, and two ace serves in the victory. Traia Hubbard added 11 kills and Megan Hirsch six more. Grace Dangel provided 30 assists and six digs.

Elyssa Walloch led with nine kills and five digs. Shannon Fanning recorded 20 digs.

Scotland will host Marion on Thursday and Gayville-Volin will host Freeman the same night.

SCOTLAND – The hometown Scotland Highlanders swept Centerville 25-15, 25-12, 57-25 for their first victory of the season.

Taylor Bietz led Scotland with nine kills, three assists and two digs. Alex Conrad added four kills and 17 assists. Alexis DeBoer recorded four kills, nine digs, and five ace serves.

Rebecca Hyberston led Centerville with three kills and 13 digs. Emily Snyder added four kills.

Scotland will host Marion on Thursday and Centerville will travel to Avon.

Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC)/DSTEP Science Testing:

As you can see, we have a very busy testingschedule along with all of the Spring activities. We have done our best to schedule around all activities.
There is no need to study in preparation for the assessments. We do ask that you encourage your children to do his/her best and get plenty of rest the night before the assessment. It is important that you make sure your child comes to school on days that he/she has tests. Making up a missed test means time out of class and losing important learning time that cannot be made up.

Area Coaches Honored

Four area coaches were recognized as Coach of the Year for their designated area by the South Dakota Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association, during the selections for 2015. In Area 3, Freeman’s Rory Hermsen was named Class B Head Coach of the Year, while Gayville-Volin’s Tom Rice was named Class B Assistant Coach of the Year. Bon Homme’s Byron Pudwill and Janet Wagner earned Class A head coach and assistant coach honors, respectively.

Bormann Brooks Finalist

Gayville-Volin assistant track and cross country coach Gene Bormann has been named one of 13 national finalists for the “2015 Inspiring Coach of the Year” award from the Brooks Running Company.

The award recognizes a coach who “goes above and beyond the call of duty to inspire young runners to push themselves to new heights and create a lasting difference in their community.”

A legend in the cross country and track circles across South Dakota and Nebraska for over 47 years, Bormann was named a finalist from a national pool that included more than 1,500 nominations. He will receive $5,000 in Brooks performance running gear and $500 for team expenses.
